Frequently Asked Questions
Earn It uses your iPhone's front or rear camera along with Apple's Vision
framework and Core ML to detect body pose landmarks in real-time. The app
counts each full repetition by tracking key joint positions (shoulders, hips,
elbows). All processing happens entirely on your device — no video is recorded,
uploaded, or stored at any point.
When you select "Touch Grass," the app asks you to take a photo of yourself
outside (ideally near actual grass, plants, or nature). The photo is sent
securely to an AI image analysis service, which checks for outdoor environmental
cues. If verified, your apps unlock. The photo is not stored after verification.
Note: indoor plant photos and screenshots may not pass verification.
App blocking requires Screen Time to be enabled on your device and Earn It
must have been granted FamilyControls permission. To check: go to
Settings → Screen Time and make sure it is turned on.
Then open Earn It and ensure you've completed the initial setup and granted
all required permissions. If issues persist, try restarting the app or your
device.
Yes! The Steps/Walking habit type reads your step count directly from Apple
Health. When you set a daily step goal, Earn It checks your progress and
automatically unlocks your apps when you hit your target. You'll need to grant
Earn It read access to your step count in Health settings. Steps from any
paired device (iPhone, Apple Watch, etc.) are counted.
Subscriptions are managed through Apple's App Store. To cancel:
open Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions, find
"Earn It," and tap "Cancel Subscription." Your access continues until the
end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial billing
periods, but you can request a refund from Apple at
reportaproblem.apple.com.
For best results:
- Make sure you are in a well-lit environment facing the camera.
- Position yourself so your full body is visible in the frame.
- Wear fitted clothing — loose clothing can confuse pose detection.
- Perform full range-of-motion reps with a brief pause at the bottom and top.
- Avoid cluttered backgrounds if possible.
